QUADRATURE
SOUNDS OF SATELLITES
Audio Installation / Satellitenklänge, Klanginstallation
For the longest time humanity was bound to the surface of Earth. With the advent of satellite technology in the 1950s, however, we established a permanent presence in space. Space may be an anechoic place, but it is no longer empty. An expansive sound installation allows the visitor to experience the incorporeal but constant existence of men-made objects flying above our heads. Located outside, directly under the sky, a multidimensional structuring of frequencies and volumes represents various characteristics of the artefacts as they pass by in real-time. Reduced to acoustic perception, their essence as intangible entities is emphasized, as individual item but as well in their totality. Interferences of the sonic waves lead to a layered, dense atmosphere, leaving the visitor alone with the imaginary, abstract sound, performed by a choir of inaccessible machines.

JAN BERNSTEIN, JULIANE GÖTZ AND SEBASTIAN NEITSCH – QUADRATURE Jan Bernstein, Juliane Götz and Sebastian Neitsch met in 2006 at the Kunsthochschule Burg Giebichenstein in Halle/Saale, Germany. During and after their successful studies they relocated to Antwerp, Linz, Stuttgart, Valencia and Vienna amongst other cities. 2010 the first collaboration resulted in the wish to join forces and formulate a common artistic practice. Since 2012 all three members of Quadrature finally live and work in Berlin.
