150 years ago the inventor of the stereoscopic display device, Oliver Wendel Hollmes, wrote „Photography is a mirror with a memory“. The Jules Richard Museum presents a fraction of its vast collection, a documentation of the first hundred years of stereoscopic photography. Already in the very beginning, once technically possible, the display of sexuality, obscenity and pornography was a topic, satisfying profit interests of photographers and distributors as well as the voyeurism of buyers and viewers. The images document the changing moral values and notions of beauty of the photographers as well as a exhibitionistic tendencies of the pictured persons.
